Two members of the Lagos State House of
Assembly, on Friday commended President Muhammadu Buhari, for laying
more emphasis on security challenges facing the country in his
inauguration speech.
The Chairman, House Committee on
Transportation, Commerce and Industry, Mr. Bisi Yusuf, told the News
Agency of Nigeria that the decision to relocate the military centre to
Maiduguri showed the seriousness of the President in tackling the Boko
Haram insurgency.
He said, “I commend President Muhammadu Buhari for laying more emphasis on security challenges and Boko Haram insurgency.
“The President also said that he would
move the military base to Maiduguri in order to combat the menace of
Boko Haram, I think that shows seriousness and determination to tackle
the insurgency.”
Yusuf (APC-Alimosho I) also appreciated
the president for recognising and embracing everybody in his
administration, saying that he was giving an inspiration which everybody
should follow in order to foster development in the country.
The lawmaker also appreciated the
Nigerians for their support and urged them to follow in the direction of
change as the administration commenced.
The
Chairman, House Committee on Works and Infrastructures, Mr. Rotimi
Olowo, also appealed to the people to be patient with the new government
as it confronts the challenges facing the country in all sectors.
“I am sure that Buhari will be able to
nip in the bud the challenges facing the country like insurgency in the
North, being an ex-military man,” Olowo said.
He also advised the new president to put an end to fuel scarcity by removing subsidy from the system.
The lawmaker appealed to Buhari to focus
on youth empowerment, job creation, education and power as stated in
his inauguration speech.
He also appealed to the citizens to pray for him to be successful in his tenure as the president of the country.
Similarly, the Presidential Candidate of
KOWA Party in the March 28, Presidential Election, Prof. Oluremi
Sonaiya, said Buhari’s speech“ touched on the vital aspects of our
realities.’’
She said, “It was a great speech, touching upon the vital aspects of our realities and the challenges ahead of us.
“It is good to hear him say “I belong to everybody’’ and I think we are in for a new kind of public conduct by our leaders.”
In the same vein, the National Chairman
of Progressives Action Council, Chief Charles Nwodo, said Buhari touched
on the ‘’spinal cord of our challenges.’’
He said, “His speech was motivational and revolutionary in character; he touched on the spinal cord of our challenges.”
