Okezie Ikpeazu |
Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu,
has asked radio stations and TV stations in the state to stop airing
jingles and congratulatory messages on his electoral victory.
Ikpeazu said this on Wednesday in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Godwin Adindu.
The statement said the governor had
notified all radio stations and electronic media in the state to reject
all ‘praise jingles’ that are eulogising the name and person of the
governor, noting that the governor was not interested in such.
The statement read, “All individuals and
political groups who mean well for the governor and are expressing
their love and satisfaction through jingles and music on the radio
should, henceforth, hold their peace as the governor has moved on to
another level of work and service delivery to the people.
“He has also advised jingle producers
and itinerant CD marketers to stop producing or playing jingles that
eulogise his name, but focus their energy on other meaningful endeavour
that will add value to the state.
The governor said he was poised to
charting a new course for the state and that this involves getting rid
of “some old ways that do not add to governance.”
Ikpeazu stressed that since the
elections were over, supporters of the party should know that it is now
time for governance and service to the people.
The statement added, “It is the vision
of the governor that his reputation in government will not be a media
creation but will flow naturally from his capacity for work, service and
performance and that the governor is set to achieve these three values.
“What the governor requires of them now
is their understanding, support and cooperation with the state
government towards the successful execution of the ongoing projects in
Aba and other parts of the state and not praises on radio.”
