Nigeria move up three places in latest FIFA rankings

– Super Eagles of Nigeria have moved up three places in the latest FIFA ranking
– The Gernot Rohr-side are now 64th best team in the world after an impressive run recently
– Nigeria remains the 13th best team in Africa as they failed to qualify for AFCON 2017
The Super Eagles of Nigeria have improved in the latest FIFA rankings released on Thursday, September 15, 2016.
The Gernot Rohr-tutored side are now the 64th best team in the world having occupied the 67th position in the previous rankings.
‎Nigeria occupy the 64th position

‎This could be attributed to the 1-0 win over Tanzania in an AFCON qualifying match on September 3 at the at the Godswill Akpabio International stadium in Uyo.
However, the Mikel Obi-captained side remain the 14 the best team in Africa, behind teams like Guinea, Congo and South Africa.
The Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire which occupy the 34 position on the standings are the best team in Africa, followed by Nigeria’s opponents at the FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifiers, Algeria in 35th position. Senegal -39, Tunisia-42 and Ghana-43 are third, fourth and fifth best teams in Nigeria respectively.
However, Argentina hold on to top place with Belgium below in the second and world champions Germany in third place.
Nigeria’s best ever position in FIFA ranking was in 1994 when the then Clemens Westerhof side placed 5th in the world
